Tony Blair and Gordon Brown will jointly meet French president Nicolas Sarkozy next week ahead of final negotiations in Brussels to revive parts of the ill-fated European Union constitution.

In a sign that Mr Blair and Mr Brown are largely united on Britain’s stance ahead of next week’s meeting of EU heads of government, the chancellor on Wednesday agreed to join a dinner meeting with Mr Sarkozy next Tuesday in Downing Street.
