Taiwan moves to force return of opposition assets

Taiwan’s parliament has started work on legislation that aims to call for the return to the state of assets it is alleged the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) gained illegally.

The move makes it clear that the KMT, which ruled Taiwan through an authoritarian regime for decades before the island’s democratisation in the 1990s, will have to resolve the issue if it wants a chance of returning to power.
