Manufacturers: Boat builders take a battering

After a decade of unprecedented growth, the superyacht industry has shown that it is not immune from recession. Orders have dried up and projects been put on hold.

The downturn has been felt most in the motor yacht sector, where an estimated 85 per cent of the industry is concentrated. Brokerage prices have been cut by up to 50 per cent, heralding the end of the yachting investment business.
