I will govern for all, claims Brown

Gordon Brown made an audacious overture to the voters of middle Britain yesterday in what aides believe will be his last speech to a Labour conference before the next general election.

Mr Brown’s team expects an election by next spring at the latest – with some cabinet ministers and MPs pressing him to lead his expectant party into battle in a snap poll in early November.
