Men are losing their jobs at more than twice the rate of women in the UK, casting doubt on recent claims that women may bear the brunt of the global economic turmoil.

Labour market figures released by the Office for National Statistics to mark International Women’s Day suggest that the recession has had less of an impact on female workers than on men.
