Afghan officials confirm 30 cases of cholera

The Afghan government yesterday denied that a cholera epidemic had struck the capital, Kabul, but confirmed that authorities had detected 30 cases and that more than 3,000 people had displayed symptoms.

Abdullah Fahim, an adviser at the health ministry, said four people had died, three of whom tested positive for cholera and one of whom may have been suffering from a different stomach ailment.
