Serbia disputes court's jurisdiction

Serbia should not be held responsible for crimes committed by the former Yugoslavia during the war in Bosnia, lawyers acting for Belgrade claimed yesterday.

On the first day of defence hearings at the International Court of Justice, where Belgrade faces allegations of state-sponsored genocide during the 1992-95 war, Serbian representatives said they hoped the court would recognise it had no jurisdiction for the case.
