Blair insists UK will not surrender EU rebate

Tony Blair, prime minister, on Wednesday insisted that Britain would remain firm in its refusal to give up part of Britain's rebate to the EU budget as part of a deal that would see big cuts to European rural subsidies.

Pressed on the rebate issue during Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Blair told parliament the rebate ‘‘will remain and we will not negotiate it away, period.’’
