Tourism: Search is on for a much broader appeal

The tourists ambling along the Cape Town waterfront, mainly British, German and American, express a mix of reactions to their experiences of South Africa.

They are impressed by the scenery and facilities but some are more struck by the shanties and lines of latrines along the road from the airport into the city, one of the world’s top tourism destinations.
