Drug prescriptions for obesity up eight-fold

The number of NHS prescriptions made out for obesity drugs in England exceeded 1m in 2006, representing an eight-fold increase over seven years, an NHS report found.

Only 127,000 obesity pills were prescribed in England in 1999, but that figure rose to 1.06m in 2006, according to the NHS Information Centre.
