Air is thick with merger talks in US

United Airlines’ pursuit of exploratory merger talks with Continental Airlines comes amid what one executive calls “a feeding frenzy” of potential consolidation among US carriers.

The talks follow US Airways’ unsolicited bid for Delta last month, indicating the six large US network carriers feel regulators are now inclined to permit the mergers they blocked six years ago.
