Car crash fraud faces industry crackdown

Criminals who invent or stage car accidents for insurance scams face a crackdown as part of a wide-ranging and potentially contentious industry effort to tackle the organised fraud problems that hurt it most.

The Insurance Fraud Bureau, a new company-funded investigative body, said that the proceeds from so-called "crash for cash" cases were linked to other serious crimes and countries associated with Islamic extremism, such as Afghanistan.
