The measure of a great employer

Being a consistently great employer is not easy. But four companies, including Goldman Sachs, enjoy the rare distinction of ­having ranked among the 100 best places to work in the US for each of the past 21 years.

The other three are AG Edwards, a Saint Louis-based stockbroker, Nordstrom, a Seattle shoe shop that grew into a national fashion retail chain, and WL Gore, a Delaware-based manufacturer of speciality chemical products such as Gore-Tex fabrics.
