Houston evacuates as Rita roars in

At least one million people on Thursday were fleeing the Texas coast as Hurricane Rita, now a category four storm, homed in on the Gulf of Mexico.

Houston, heart of the US oil industry, is continuing the mass evacuation of low-lying, flood-prone areas of the Texas city as the threat intensified.
