After more than a decade of false starts and disappointments, the fledgling electronic book industry may finally be making some headway.

New hardware, including Sony's recently launched Librié electronic book reader, appears to have cracked many of the problems that have hobbled the embryonic e-book industry and stalled customer adoption to date.
