Faith is strong in emerging markets

Any meeting with an emerging market fund manager, it seems, always starts with a blizzard of statistics.

Emerging markets account for more than 80 per cent of the world’s population, we are earnestly told, more than 70 per cent of its land mass and foreign exchange reserves, about half its economic output (measured at purchasing power parity), yet only 12 per cent of global equity market capitalisation.
