Apple shifts focus to challenge main rivals

Apple aficionados may say it was worth the wait. At its keenly anticipated annual conference on Monday the technology group shifted into a more competitive gear and revealed deep price cuts for its handset and laptop computers and unveiled a faster, longer-life iPhone.

The style leader also threw down a challenge to Microsoft as it prepares Windows 7 for an October launch.
