Irish central bank chief hits at cap on pay

Ireland’s central bank governor has warned that capping bankers salaries will make it more difficult for Ireland to retain and recruit the right talent to address its financial crisis.

Patrick Honohan’s comments, in an interview with the Irish Independent on Thursday, would appear to be out of step with Brian Lenihan, the finance minister, who for the past week has been engaged in a battle of wills with Allied Irish Banks to restrict the salary of its new managing director.
