Former communist elected as president of Mongolia

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary party has won the nation's fourth democratic presidential election, with former premier Nambaryn Enkhbayar taking an estimated 53 per cent of votes.

The margin of Mr Enkhbayar's victory on Sunday, which removed the need for a second round of voting, will strengthen the ex-communist MPRP's hand in the complicated coalition politics that followed last year's hung general election.
