Standard Life ends speculation and starts new phase

If Standard Life wanted to make a point about being solidly predictable, then, with its drawn-out chief executive succession process, it has succeeded.

Gerry Grimstone, chairman, embarked on a global tour of potential new chief executives – Australia, the US, France – only to end where he could have started: nipping down the corridor to David Nish’s office and inviting the finance director to take the job.
