Tiffany’s sales lose sparkle

Tiffany, the US jeweller, suggested more evidence that the economic slowdown in the US was affecting even the most affluent shoppers, with new weakness in US demand for “statement” jewellery pieces priced above $50,000.

When the jeweller first saw slowing sales at the end of last year, the weakness was focused around “aspirational luxury” purchases of lower-priced fashion jewellery such as silver charms.
