Data bolster CFTC call for greater power

US legal authorities did not take any action in almost two-thirds of the cases brought to them by the country’s federal commodities markets’ regulators over the past five years.

The Commodity Futures Trade Commission, which patrols markets for oil and agriculture commodities, brought 173 cases to law enforcement agencies between 2003 and 2008.
