Big-name players blaze trail for small boutiques

As the shockwaves from the crisis recede, traders and analysts are joining investment bankers in the flight from large institutions to smaller entrepreneurial boutiques and trading firms.

In what strikes many in the financial markets as a “back to the future” moment, there is preference for the clubby atmosphere of partnerships – with streamlined management and a trading floor where everyone knows each other from the president down to the trainee.
