Prospects rise for second Irish vote on Lisbon

Prospects of a second Irish referendum on the European Union’s Lisbon treaty rose on Thursday after an all-party parliamentary report said there was no legal obstacle to another poll.

The report, by the Oireachtas [Irish parliament] sub-committee on the country’s future in the European Union, said: “No legal obstacle appears to exist to having a referendum either on precisely the same issue as that dealt with on June 12 or some variation thereof.”
