There is nothing like a recession to put the dampeners on a party, so it was with relative sobriety that L’Oréal celebrated its 100th birthday on Thursday.

Eschewing champagne and fireworks, the world’s biggest cosmetics company put the accent instead on its role as good global citizen by launching 100 welfare projects throughout the world.
