US widens gap with Europe on R&D

The transatlantic technology gap has widened in the past year as US companies continued to outstrip their European rivals on research and development spending, a study published today shows.

Corporate R&D spending in the US rose by 8.2 per cent over the past year, compared with 5.8 per cent in Europe, according to the international R&D Scoreboard published by the UK Department of Trade and Industry.
