When David Scott left UBS last year to build a UK wealth management start-up with former employees of the Swiss bank, he could not have guessed he would be opening its doors days before the start of last month’s financial meltdown.

But the founder and managing partner of Vestra Wealth is unfazed by the timing. “Launching in the middle of a credit crisis gives you a chance to show how well you can do,” he says.
