Mandelson hits back at Sarkozy criticism

Peter Mandelson, European Union trade commissioner, on Friday rejected criticism by President Sarkozy of EU moves to cut agricultural production as part of a free trade deal at the World trade Organisation.

Speaking exclusively to the FT during a visit to Russia, Mr Mandelson responded that ”Real food security comes from properly managed and developed agricultural markets and the rejection of trade impediments which will only add food scarcity to food shortages where these already exist.”
