Brown spells out agenda as next PM

Gordon Brown on Monday made a direct appeal to the Labour party to elect him as Tony Blair’s successor, marking the first occasion on which he has directly declared his ambition to be the next Labour leader and prime minister.

In a 37-minute address to the party’s conference, Mr Brown declared he would “relish the opportunity” to challenge David Cameron and the Conservatives at the next general election.
