Union backs Shanghai’s Rover bid

The head of one of Britain's biggest unions intervened in the sale of MG Rover on Sunday to support Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp's bid for the failed Birmingham carmaker over a rival approach from Nanjing Automobile.

Tony Woodley, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, said SAIC's bid could be “a mini-miracle for jobs and the West Midlands”.
