Bond issuers suffer lack of liquidity

In one of the most traumatic weeks for financial markets, the ability of even the most highly rated companies to raise funds has been put in doubt.

With the disappearance of three leading bond houses – Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch – and the soaring cost of issuing debt as market conditions deteriorate, the opportunity for raising debt has been curtailed, at least in the short term.
