Tax fears as companies shift to Ireland

Two British companies are to shift their headquarters to Ireland – a dramatic sign of the rising pressure on the Treasury to keep its tax system competitive.

Charter, an engineering company whose origins go back to a company chaired by Cecil Rhodes and founded under the patronage of Queen Victoria, announced on Thursday it was switching its tax base to Ireland to cut its tax rate and compliance costs.
