Shops boost house prices

As the housing downturn hits the country’s richest neighbourhoods, estate agents say they have had to become “brutally honest” with their clients. But proximity to facilities such as new shopping centres can still make a difference to prices.

October saw the 12th consecutive monthly fall in house prices, according to Nationwide, as sellers who had resisted pressure to cut their asking prices realised they had little alternative.
