Miliband insists ties to US will remain strong

David Miliband, the foreign secretary, on Sunday faced down claims that the Brown government is seeking to cool relations with the US, insisting the UK’s commitment to working with the Bush administration is “resolute”.

After several days of confusion that saw two ministers appearing to suggest the Brown government would adopt a new and more hostile approach to Washington, Mr Miliband said “the British national interest is best served by a strong relationship with the United States”.
