Confidence boosted on mixed days for metals

Base metals were mixed in light trade yesterday but there was renewed confidence about the outlook for 2007 among participants attending the London Metal Exchange's busiest ever week of events.

To coincide with LME week, Standard Bank, the South African bank, yesterday forecast further gains in base metal prices underpinned by the success of exchange-traded funds and commodity indices. It said increased LME trading volumes were a testament to increased investor appetite for exposure to metals.
