Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, Iran’s president, may believe the US dollar is a “worthless piece of paper” but it is clear at least one dollar-denominated asset maintains its lustre.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year US government bond dipped below 4 per cent on Wednesday, as investors noted a sharp fall in overnight equity futures and scrambled for a place to park their cash.
