Halifax reports 10.9% fall in house prices

The housing market suffered another month of extreme weakness, Halifax, the mortgage lender, reported on Thursday, as it estimated that prices in August were 10.9 per cent lower than a year earlier.

The figures show the Halifax’s house price index tracking that of the Nationwide Building Society, with both lenders reckoning that percentage house price falls in the past year are now in double digits.
