Transparency and fresh prospects light up the once forgotten continent

The emergence of subSaharan Africa as an investment region has triggered a rush of new fund launches in the past year, from traditional long-only equity to hedge and private equity funds, catching the attention of investors with an appetite for new frontiers and high-risk potential growth. But is it likely to be a good climate for mainstream investors, or just a commodities-driven flash in the pan?

Chinese and Indian demand for natural re-sources has helped fuel a boom in commodities and although resources have trad-itionally been the focus for investing in Africa, it is not the only draw.
