Schumer seeks SEC funding reform

The US Securities and Exchange Commission needs a new, more reliable funding system that would allow it to attract experienced investigators capable of detecting frauds such as Bernard Madoff’s $65bn “Ponzi” scheme, a senior US senator said on Thursday.

Charles Schumer from New York said he planned to introduce legislation next week proposing that the SEC be allowed to keep industry fees it collects every year.
