Giscard fires first salvo as recriminations begin

France's Yes campaign descended into recrimination on Tuesday amid pessimism that voters will reject the European constitutional treaty in a referendum on Sunday.

Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, the former French president and author of the European constitution, on Tuesday blamed the government's lack of conviction on Europe for the failure to halt the advance of the anti-treaty campaign.
