Intel tie-up seeks to reinvent Atom

Intel announced an unprecedented partnership with the largest chip foundry on Monday, as the world’s biggest semiconductor maker sought to ride out the downturn by finding new markets.

Intel’s agreement with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) to help it make its Atom microprocessor came as the US-based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) revealed global chip sales plunged 29 per cent in January.
