Microsoft in South African setback

Microsoft’s efforts to demonstrate its commitment to open and fair business practices hit another snag on Friday when South Africa challenged a recent decision to certify the company’s software as an international standard.

Microsoft has been keen to show that its software is interoperable with rival products in order to silence European Commission criticism that it is abusing its dominant position by shutting competitors out.
