Deal struck to aid Irish Yes drive on Lisbon

British diplomats said on Thursday night a deal had been done to help the Irish government win a Yes vote on the Lisbon treaty in a referendum in October.

A protocol is expected to added to the next European Union treaty – likely to be the Croatian accession treaty – offering assurances that Lisbon does not affect Irish neutrality, taxation and abortion laws.
