Homeowners in the UK have had a very uncomfortable few years. A prolonged period of house price falls left many watching helplessly as their investments lost value month by month. Some found themselves in negative equity.

Not surprisingly, the opportunity to profit from a gloomy housing market has become more popular as a result. By using spread bets on movements in the housing market, homeowners can hedge against the value of their property falling and so offset losses in bricks and mortar.
