Worldly success for Barack Obama

Barack Obama’s world tour was a success. Nothing went wrong for the Democratic party candidate for the US presidency. And four big things went right.

The first and most important success was in Iraq. Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, effectively endorsed Mr Obama’s plan for a withdrawal of American troops. That has blunted one of the most dangerous attacks on the Democrat – that he is prepared to throw away hard-won progress in Iraq.
