Beijing halts talks with US over arms sales to Taiwan

China has cancelled a series of military exchanges with the Pentagon following a US decision to move forward with $6.5bn in long-delayed weapons sales to Taiwan.

The move is a setback for efforts to promote better understanding and greater co-operation between the US military and China's -People's Liberation Army.
