A British soldier was killed in a suspected suicide attack in Afghanistan on Monday adding to pressure on the British government, already on the defensive over the role of UK troops in Afghanistan after 14 service personnel were killed when a Nato aircraft crashed at the weekend.

Monday’s attack, which also killed at least four Afghan civilians, targeted a Nato convoy in the capital, Kabul.
