Tourism and heritage: Development buoys rich regional assets

The recession could be a blessing in disguise for the north-east’s tourism sector if more Britons stay at home for their holidays this year, to save money and escape the impact of a weak pound on the cost of going abroad.

On the other side of the coin, more overseas tourists could be tempted to visit the region as their money – and especially the euro – will go further.
