Latvia agrees pact on budget cuts

Latvia’s government on Monday struck a tentative deal to push through deep budget cuts demanded by international lenders as a condition of its €7.5bn rescue package.

Valdis Dombrovskis, prime minister, said his five-party coalition had agreed in principle to cut the budget deficit by 500m lats ($1bn, €711m) next year, amid renewed international concern over the Baltic country’s crisis-hit economy.
