Terrorism probe for Cern scientist

A scientist at the Cern nuclear research laboratory on the French-Swiss border was formally placed under investigation on Monday for suspected links to an Islamist terrorist group.

Adlène Hicheur, a 32-year old French citizen of Algerian descent, appeared before an anti-terrorist investigating judge in Paris on suspicion of a “criminal association with a terrorist enterprise” after contacting members of a north African offshoot of al-Qaeda.
